    About GSDC

About the Global Sustainable Development Congress

The Global Sustainable Development Congress is a leading international forum dedicated to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through collaboration between universities, governments, industry, and civil society. The congress convenes more than 5,000 global leaders, researchers, policymakers and innovators from over 100 countries to accelerate solutions to the world’s most pressing sustainability challenges. The latest edition will take place in Jakarta, Indonesia bringing the global higher education and sustainability community together in one of the world’s most dynamic crossroads of culture, research and innovation. Previous editions of the Congress have been held in Istanbul and Bangkok, where thousands of participants gathered to share research, form partnerships and accelerate action toward sustainable development.

Organised by Times Higher Education, the trusted global authority on higher education and university performance, the Global Sustainable Development Congress builds on a long-standing commitment to measuring and promoting the social and environmental impact of universities worldwide.

Driving global impact through higher education

Universities play a critical role in shaping a more sustainable future. From climate action and clean energy research to social equity, health, and economic development, higher education institutions are at the forefront of innovation and change.

The Global Sustainable Development Congress provides a platform where these efforts can be shared, scaled, and strengthened through international collaboration. Delegates engage in high-level discussions, research showcases, policy dialogue, and partnership building aimed at translating academic knowledge into real-world impact.

    Powered by Times Higher Education

As the organiser of the Global Sustainable Development Congress, Times Higher Education brings decades of expertise in analysing and celebrating the impact of universities worldwide. Through initiatives such as the Times Higher Education Impact Ratings, which measure universities’ contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals, THE has become a global leader in highlighting how higher education institutions contribute to sustainable development.

The Congress extends this mission by creating a physical gathering place for the global community working toward the SDGs. It connects the data, insights, and networks developed by Times Higher Education with policymakers, investors, NGOs, and academic leaders committed to meaningful change.

A global platform for the sustainable development goals

At the heart of the Global Sustainable Development Congress is a commitment to collaboration across sectors and borders. The event convenes:

    • University leaders and researchers
    • Government and policy representatives
    • Industry innovators and investors
    • Non-governmental organisations and foundations
    • Students and emerging sustainability leaders

Together, they explore practical solutions to global challenges including climate change, biodiversity loss, public health, sustainable cities, and inclusive economic growth.

    Building partnerships for the future

The Global Sustainable Development Congress is more than a conference. It is a global network dedicated to accelerating progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals through knowledge exchange, research partnerships, and cross-sector collaboration.

By connecting the global higher education community with decision-makers and industry leaders, Times Higher Education ensures that the insights generated by universities can inform policy, shape innovation, and drive sustainable impact worldwide.
